NORMAN — In his second year as Oklahoma’s head coach, Brent Venables has drastically transformed the Sooners’ defense.
While the former Clemson defensive coordinator still acknowledges that his team has plenty of room to grow, it is evident that some of the glaring weaknesses that have plagued OU since Venables left Norman in 2011 have been addressed.
Despite the obvious improvements that Oklahoma has made defensively, Venables’ squad has yet to meet a high-powered offense in 2023. That will change this weekend when the Sooners meet the Longhorns for the annual Red River Rivalry game.
