The Sooners are looking to add the finishing touches to their 2027 recruiting class as they host their final official visits of the summer this weekend.
The Oklahoma staff already made a strong statement early in OV season with the commitments of local star cornerback Gabe Osborne and 3-star running back Jakoby Dixon. But those additions were just the tip of the iceberg in this early push toward the finish line.
Of the 13 official visitors coming to Norman over the next several days, three are not committed to the Sooners’ 2027 class.
Firstly, 4-star linebacker Case Alexander from Washington, Okla. is visiting this weekend per a report from Rivals. The Sooners have been pushing for Alexander for a long time, using their tie to the star defender’s father, Stephen, who played tight end at OU from 1994-97.
Despite this, it is widely known that Oklahoma is not in the driver’s seat of this recruitment. Case’s older brother, Cooper, was recruited to Iowa State by then-head coach Matt Campbell in the 2025 cycle. With Campbell’s move to Penn State this offseason, he has maintained a strong relationship with the younger Alexander, keeping the Nittany Lions in the lead for Case’s commitment.
Secondly, 3-star cornerback Trenton Blaylock of Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, the younger brother of the Sooners’ sophomore running back Tory Blaylock.
In the weeks leading up to the first official visits in late May, the Sooners’ front office sent out multiple offers at corner, including 4-star Bryce Williams from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., (who has since committed to Nebraska), and 4-star Brandon Sherrard from Pearland, Texas. Both took official visits to Norman at the end of May.
It appears those offers were made to either pressure primary targets such as Osborne and Blaylock or expedite their decision-making process. Obviously, with Osborne’s commitment last week, it seems to have worked in the Sooners’ favor so far.
With commitments from Osborne, Mikhail McCreary, and Mikyal Davis, the Sooners are already deep at cornerback in the 2027 cycle. Yet they would not object to adding a fourth or even a fifth. Ideally, one of those pieces would be the younger Blaylock.
However, it is still far from a foregone conclusion, as Vanderbilt and Texas are right in the thick of it with Oklahoma for Blaylock’s services, having hosted him on official visits the previous two weekends, respectively, per Parker Thune of SoonerScoop.com.
Thirdly, 3-star athlete Jaiden Fields out of Hutto, Texas. With elite athleticism and versatility, Fields has played on both sides of the ball throughout his high school career. His desire to continue doing so is a major factor in his attraction to Texas A&M, stemming from the Aggies’ willingness to give him that opportunity.
Meanwhile, the other major players in his recruitment, including Oklahoma, intend to use him primarily at safety and on special teams.
Today, SMU appears to be in the driver’s seat, as Fields has taken seven total visits to Dallas over the course of his recruitment. He is also slated to take an official visit to TCU next weekend per Josh McCuiston of SoonerScoop.com. But regardless of where things stand today, Fields has stated that he will not make a decision until he has taken all of his official visits, at least giving Oklahoma a chance to make a lasting impression.
