After hosting their last round of official visits this past weekend, the University of Oklahoma hauled in three more commitments to the No. 3 class in the country.
The first was 3-star wide receiver Malahn Green of Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis, Missouri, who announced his commitment on Sunday morning.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver began his high school career at St. Louis St. Mary’s, where he caught 42 passes for 695 yards and four touchdowns during his sophomore season before transferring to Cardinal Ritter.
Per Missouri transfer rules, Green was required to sit out his junior season. That contributed to his lower rating entering the summer, as he only earned his 3-star designation last Thursday following a productive camp at Oklahoma.
Looking at his tape, Green has a nice blend of speed, twitch, and toughness that should help the Sooners find extra yards in gotta-have-it situations.
The second commitment of the weekend was 3-star interior offensive lineman Jaxon Lawler from Amarillo, Texas. Lawler is the sixth offensive line commit for the Sooners in the 2027 cycle, making this the strongest class offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh has ever assembled.
Per Parker Thune of SoonerScoop.com, Lawler has strong connections to Oklahoma, as his grandparents reside in the Sooner State and his grandfather graduated from the OU business school.
Following his grandfather’s passing, Lawler made a promise to himself that he would one day play football for Oklahoma, making his commitment an exceptionally personal one.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound West Texas native has extensive experience on both sides of the ball, having logged significant snaps on the defensive line during his junior season. That background shows up on tape, as he brings an extra level of violence to his game that should prove invaluable in protecting his quarterback through the gauntlet of the SEC.
The final addition from the weekend came in the form of 3-star cornerback Trent Blaylock, the younger brother of Sooners’ sophomore running back Tory Blaylock, out of Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas.
The younger Blaylock had become a high-priority target for multiple SEC programs, taking official visits to Vanderbilt and Texas in previous weeks. However, it was ultimately the community and standard of excellence that Brent Venables has built in Norman that tipped the scales in the Sooners’ favor over the weekend, per SoonerScoop.com.
Like his brother, Blaylock is also a track athlete and possesses elite speed, running verified times of 10.43 in the 100 meters and 21.01 in the 200 meters, per 247Sports. He pairs that top-end speed with impressive acceleration, both of which show up on his junior tape. On one play, after an outside zone run broke free on the opposite side of the field, Blaylock took off like a rocket, eventually hunting down the ball carrier at the 30-yard line, preventing a sure touchdown.
On top of that, he is an excellent boundary corner, exhibiting a keen understanding of leverage and consistently forcing opposing receivers to the outside.
Those are all traits that Oklahoma cornerbacks coach LaMar Morgan is no doubt thrilled to add to his position group as he puts a nice bookend on his first recruiting class in Norman. Between recent victories with Blaylock and 5-star Gabe Osborne, coupled with inherited commitments from 4-star Mikhail McCreary and 3-star Mikyal Davis, Morgan has assembled an impressive haul in the 2027 cycle.
