Reese Atwood’s walk-off single in the eighth inning leads Texas to a 1-0 win over Oklahoma State.
With the win, Texas improves to 37-9-1 while OSU falls to 39-6.
The Cowgirls again struggled on offense. Oklahoma State left eight runners on base on six hits. In its last three games, OSU has left 26 runners on base.
Lexi Kilfoyl got the start in the circle and kept the Cowgirls in it. She gave up one run on four hits and recorded seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings pitched.
OSU got an opportunity in the first inning when it had bases loaded with two outs, bringing Micaela Wark to the plate.
Wark didn’t come through, hitting a ground out to end the inning.
Both teams struggled to get any offense going. Oklahoma State’s offense recorded a hit in all but three innings, but couldn’t come away with any runs.
Kilfoyl continued to dominate the Longhorns, as she had a perfect game through six innings.
But after the seventh, the Longhorn offense came alive.
After Ashton Maloney and Mia Scott both got singles, Texas had runners on first and second with one away.
Viviana Martinez hit a ground out, but advanced the runners to second and third. Leighann Goode walked, setting up a RBI opportunity for Atwood.
She delivered, hitting a walk-off single, scoring Maloney and giving Texas the win.
Due to weather on Thursday, OSU will play two games on Saturday.
Game two of the series against the Longhorns is at noon, and game three is scheduled at 3 p.m. Both games will be on the Longhorn Network.
