The Texas Rangers, 36-32 overall, split a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox, 36-34. Texas won the series opener 4-3 in 11 innings. Left fielder Danny Santana, shortstop Elvis Andrus and right fielder Nomar Mazara each hit RBI singles, Mazara’s drove in two. Reliever Jesse Chavez earned his second win after striking out one in the 10th and reliever Chris Martin earned his second save after striking out two in the 11th.
Texas won game two 9-5. Designated hitter Hunter Pence hit an inside-the-park home run, his 14th home run, and first baseman Ronald Guzmán hit a two-run double, his 12, as part of Texas’ nine-run game. Starter Ariel Jurado earned his fourth win after allowing three runs and striking out six in six innings.
Texas lost game three 4-3. Pence hit a two-run double, his 12th, and Andrus drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Starter Lance Lynn allowed three runs and struck out eight in six innings.
Texas lost the series finale 7-6. First baseman Logan Forsythe hit a two-run single, Andrus hit two RBI singles, totaling three RBIs, and Pence hit a hit a RBI double, his 13th. Starter Adrian Sampson allowed six runs and struck out five in five innings.
