NORMAN – Skylar Vann posted team highs of 21 points and seven rebounds on her birthday, and the Oklahoma defense locked in as the Sooners held off a tough Kansas team, 60-55, in Norman on Saturday to improve to 7-1 in the Big 12.
The win gave Oklahoma (13-6, 7-1 Big 12) sole possession of second place in the Big 12 Conference and sets up a battle for first place next Wednesday when No. 4 Kansas State comes to Norman. The Sooners are 7-1 in league play for the first time since 2014-15.
“This is one of those games that show how tough the Big 12 is,” third-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. “This league is so unique because of how different teams play and the versatility from top to bottom. I’m proud of the way that we stuck in it. I’m not necessarily proud of our offensive production or our energy early on, but I’m proud of the way that when push came to shove in the fourth quarter, we were able to come out on top, and that’s not something we were able to do a month ago.”
