At number 15, we set our attention towards the 2017 Oklahoma Sooners Golf National Champions.
The Oregon Ducks led by Casey Martin finished as the runner-up to the Sooners with a score of 1.5. The Sooners were led by head coach Ryan Hbyl scoring 3.5 and becoming National Champions.
This was Oklahoma’s first national championship victory since 1989 led by head coach Gregg Grost and defeating the Texas Longhorns in the National Title game.
The Sooners started the season resulting in fifth place at The Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, California. Oklahoma State placed first in this meeting.
With the Gopher Invitational taking set in Independence, Minnesota, Hybl’s team took first place in Norman. It was the 13th win all time for Hybl.
Oklahoma placed fourth, sixth, and fourth again in their next three-season tournaments. These tournaments took place in Fort Worth, Texas, Atlanta, Georgia, and the island of Maui in Hawaii.
In their next four tournaments, the Sooners placed in the top three in three of the four tournaments including a victory at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
Two tournaments were left in the regular season as the Sooners concluded sixth place at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia, and tied for second place with the New Mexico Lobos at The Maxwell in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Hutchinson, Kansas was the host of the Big 12 tournament. The crimson and cream ended the tournament in fifth place with the Longhorns crowned as the Big 12 tournament champions.
Out of 13th teams, Sooners ended in fourth place at the NCAA Stanford Regional in Stanford, California.
For the first time, the NCAA Championships was hosted in Sugar Grove, Illinois with 30 teams included in the competition.
Brad Dalke, Blaine Hale, Max McGreevy, Grant Hirschman, and Rylee Reinertson led the Sooners to a victorious result also known as the 2017 NCAA National Champions.
