QB Experience Matters, but Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel Can Continue to Buck OU-Texas Trend
The Sooners and Longhorns meet Saturday in the Red River Rivalry, and Gabriel may or may not be the more seasoned quarterback against Texas’ Quinn Ewers.

There’s a powerful statistic floating around out there — and if you follow the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry, you know it well — that seems to be less relevant each year.

Since 1990, quarterbacks making their debut in the Red River Showdown are 4-14-1 against their QB counterparts who have previously started or had significant playing time in the game.

That’s a big number, but Sooner QBs have bucked the trend in each of the last two instances.
