After 32 years around the OU football program as a player and coach, assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Cale Gundy announced his resignation late last night. According to Gundy, in a team meeting he read aloud a “shameful and hurtful” word. Gundy was the first to report the situation when he released this statement on twitter last night:

Head coach Brent Venables also released a statement on the matter:

Many past OU football players have come to the defense of coach Gundy, including Joe Mixon and Dede Westbrook:

While this is a very unfortunately timed sequence of events, Gundy is attempting to downgrade the distraction by resigning immediately. As we near closer and closer to football time in Oklahoma, this is a disturbing development that will hopefully not effect the teams preparation for the upcoming season.
