Sooner Nation’s inherent fear, of course, is that after more than 20 years of excellence, last year’s 6-7 record may become more routine. Next year’s move to the SEC looms large. If this Oklahoma team can learn from the past without repeating it, while at the same time not obsessing about the future (aside from recruiting SEC-ready defensive linemen, of course), then one more Big 12 title might be realistic. Consider an historically easy schedule (the addition of three former Group of 5 teams who replace losses last year to Kansas State, Baylor and Texas Tech) and consider Texas just might be overhyped again, and double-digit wins seems a likelihood. Consistency will be key — limit penalties, don’t commit turnovers or catastrophic busts — and that starts against Arkansas State.
