Grizzlies Hand The Thunder Historic 73 Point Loss-A Rant

Grizzlies Hand The Thunder Historic 73 Point Loss-A Rant

Oklahoma City – The Thunder were on the road tonight in the second game of a back to back to
visit the Grizzlies and looked to end their 7 game losing streak.
Just like last night, it was going to be tough because they were going to be short handed. Tonight
they were even more shorthanded because their best player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was out
due to being in the concussion protocol.
The Grizzlies were without Ja Morant so that would make it a little easier for the Thunder.
So we thought.
The Thunder went into Memphis and got completely embarrassed. And that’s putting it nicely.
There really isn’t anything positive to say about the game. They lost by a NBA record 73 points.
It’s the worst lost in NBA history. The previous was 68 and was owned by the Heat who lost by
that much in 1991 who were in their 3rd season as a franchise.
Normally I would give the three things that didn’t go well but I wouldn’t even be able to stop at 3.
The Thunder stepped on the floor and everything went wrong from that point on. I really can’t
even think of what to say other than they gave poor effort all night and the scoreboard showed
There is no reason this team, or any team in the NBA for that matter, should lose by 73 points.
They got down by as many as 78. SEVENTY EIGHT! The Grizzlies were without Ja Morant and
Jaren Jackson Jr. only played 20 minutes so this loss is really confusing. The only thing anyone
can say is that they didn’t give any effort. They didn’t move on offense and were playing one on
one all night, they didn’t move the ball, took a lot of early shot clock shots, and then their defense
was horrid.
The last 5 quarters the Thunder have played, they have given up 41, 31, 41, 41, and 39 points.
All to teams that didn’t really have star power to put up those kind of numbers. Lets talk more
about the numbers the Thunder gave up tonight.
First they gave up 152 to the Grizzlies who didn’t have Ja Morant. That’s bad enough but it gets
worse. They gave up 82 points in the paint and if those were the only points the Grizzlies scored
they still win the game by 3. The bench scored 93 points and if the starters don't score they
Grizzlies still win the game by 14. The Grizzlies shot 19-36 from 3 and if they instead shot 0-36
they still win the game by 16. Just a horrible night from the Thunder.
I can safely say that this was the worst game in franchise history. Not only because they lost by
73 and were down by 78, but because of how they played. They didn’t look like an NBA team
Last season, they lost by 57 points and the pacers had them down by as much as 67. I didn’t think
there was any chance it would get worse than that.

I was wrong.
I honestly wanted someone on the Thunder to give out a hard foul so they showed some kind of
fight but they didn’t at all. They just let the Grizzlies run all over them and that’s the most
concerning thing. Teams get beat all the time but to not show any kind of fight is embarrassing.
The Thunder now own the worst home loss (57), the worst road loss, and worst overall loss (73)
in NBA history. Have to say though, that is kind of impressive.
The good news is, they have a few days off to think about this loss and hit the road again to play
the Pistons on Monday night. That is going to be a great day to end their 8 game losing streak.
