D&R OU Practice Report – Wednesday, September 5

Rives Mitchell and Dave Myrick

Brent Venables arrived to his weekly press conference yesterday with a smile on his face. How could he not after last Saturday?

OU did exactly what was expected of them, routing Arkansas State 73-0 behind stellar play from the offense, defense and special teams. It was truly an all around performance for OU, as they held ArkSt scoreless.

The only cause for concern that took place during the game was on the injury front, which saw a newcomer and a veteran go down early. First it was Drake Stoops, after an awkward hit he took in the first quarter, came up holding his shoulder in intense pain.

Thankfully, it was ruled an AC sprain after the game, meaning he could be ready to play this upcoming week against SMU. The same goes for Indiana transfer Dasan McCullough, who came up gimpy on his ankle early in the first half.

McCullough was taken to the locker room briefly, but did eventually return to the sideline in full pads. He was precociously held out the rest of the game.

Staying healthy will be key for a Sooner team that cannot afford to lose primary players.

OU hosts SMU at 5pm this Saturday. SMU will provide a much tougher test for the Sooners, especially due to their prolific and fast paced offense.
