RIVES MITCHELL & DAVE MYRICK
Coming off back to back disastrous losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State, skepticism started to creep in that the 2023 Sooners were heading towards a downward spiral similar to last year. Those doubts were quickly silenced when OU stomped West Virginia in Norman Saturday night.
The Sooners took care of the Mountaineers 59-20 behind eight touchdowns from Dillon Gabriel and a stifling defensive effort. Though WVU led 7-0 early, OU rallied the troops and responded with dazzling play calls leading to effortless scores.
Drake Stoops also continued his unbelievable final season, scoring three touchdowns and proving once again he is one of the most underrated players in college football.
The successful weekend continued for Stoops even off the field, when he was named a Bulsworth Trophy finalist. The award goes to the top player that began their career as a walk-on.
If OU plans on getting to 10 wins and possibly a trip to the Big 12 Championship, they will to at least win their last two games. The Sooners travel to Provo, Utah this weekend to take on the BYU Cougars. It will be the first time in program history OU has played at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Dave and Rives dove into more about practice and the game this weekend on their latest practice report, which can be viewed here.
