Vanderbilt Sweeps Oklahoma State In Weekend Scrimmage Series To Vanderbilt

The Vanderbilt Commodores swept the Oklahoma State Cowboys in four seven-inning scrimmages during the weekend at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tennessee.


The Cowboys were held hitless in the first scrimmage. Second baseman Dylan Gardner was OSU’s only baserunner with hit two walks. OSU lost 1-0.


The Cowboy’s pitching staff kept Vanderbilt scoreless until reliever Brady Basso allowed a run in the sixth inning.


OSU scored four runs in the second scrimmage. Shortstop Huey Morrill, catcher Colin Simpson, first baseman Alix Garcia and outfielder Carson McCusker each drove in a run. OSU lost 10-4.


OSU used four pitchers in the second scrimmage with starter Logan Gragg earning the loss.


The Cowboys were held scoreless in the third scrimmage until first baseman Christian Funk hit a RBI single in the sixth. OSU lost 6-1.


The defense allowed four errors and four pitchers were used, including starter Mason Stone who earned the loss.


Garcia and right fielder Cade Cabbiness each drove in a run in the final scrimmage. OSU lost 3-2.


Starter Peyton Battenfield allowed a run in two innings before Vanderbilt scored broke the tie in the seventh which decided the game.


Overall, the pitching staff used 15 pitchers and recorded 29 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings.
