THUNDER POSTGAME: Russ makes h1st6ry & OKC seals the deal on the regular season with a 137-123 win over the Memphis Grizzlies

And just like that, season No. 10 for the Oklahoma City Thunder is in the books, and the Thunder head into playoffs with one final win on their home court during the regular season over the Memphis Grizzlies at 137-123

It was a historical night in Chesapeake Energy Arena, but that seems like a common occurrence for the Thunder this season. The crowd was roaring with just under 8 minutes left in the third quarter as Russell Westbrook recorded his 16th rebound of the game making him the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons.

Russ now averages 25.6 PPG, 10.0 RPG and 10.1 APG after he ended the night with 20 total rebounds and 19 total assists alongside 6 points.

The Thunder secured their playoff spot with a 115-93 win over Miami on Monday, so this matchup with Memphis was all about avoiding the 8th seed in the competitive Western Conference for playoffs, and that’s exactly what the Thunder were able to accomplish with dominant performances from Paul George.

PG led the Thunder in scoring tonight picking up 40 points going 13-20 from the field and 8-14 from behind the arc.

Steven Adams was also excellent in the paint going 9-12 and ending the night with 24 points and 7 rebounds.

Corey Brewer saw trouble and was taken to the locker room after being shaken up with a little over 7 minutes to go in the final quarter of play, but he contributed 17 points and was 7-13 in the paint. His status was not released.

Prior to tonight’s tip-off, Russell Westbrook took center court and thanked the OKC crowd for their loyalty and support throughout the season, as well as recognized Nick Collison’s 15 years in the NBA.

“We’ve been through a lot together, and it was cool to have a moment like that,” said Collison postgame. “Not a lot of people get to play with a guy that long and go through the things we’ve been through, so it’s cool to have that type of relationship.”

The Thunder finish the regular season at 48-34 maintaining a 27-14 record on their home court. Up next… It’s playoffs time.

The Thunder are set to face the Utah Jazz for round one of the NBA playoffs, and with a 102-93 loss to the Trail Blazers tonight, the Jazz slide back to the 5th seed in the West giving the Thunder the 4th seed and home court advantage for the first two games of the series.

Watch here to see what Nick Collison, Carmelo Anthony, Steven Adams, Paul George and Russell Westbrook had to say about tonight’s win over the Grizzlies and their thoughts on playoffs:
