The Texas Rangers, 21-23 overall, won a three-game weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals, 24-23. Texas won the series opener 7-3. Second baseman Rougned Odor hit a three-run home run, his sixth, and right fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run home run, his sixth. Pitcher Adrian Sampson earned his first win after allowing two runs, one earned, in 5 1/3 innings. This win followed reliever Jose Leclerc opening the game with a two-strikeout shutout first inning.
Texas lost game two 8-2. Catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a RBI double, his fourth, and left fielder Willie Calhoun hit a RBI groundout. Starter Ariel Jurado earned his second loss after allowing four runs, two earned, and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings.
Texas won the series finale 5-4. Right fielder Nomar Mazara hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning. Pinch hitter Danny Santana hit a solo home run, his fourth, and Choo hit a solo home run, his seventh. Reliever Jeanmar Gómez earned his first win after allowing a run in the 10th before Mazara’s walk-off.
