The Texas Rangers (64-85) won two of three against the San Diego Padres (60-90) at Petco Park to finish a nine-game road trip.
First baseman Jurickson Profar started Texas’ offense with a RBI single in the second inning of the series opener. In the fifth, catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa hits a RBI ground out before Profar hits a two-run home run, his 17th, in the seventh. Texas win 4-0.
Rookie Connor Sadzeck pitched a scoreless inning and allowed a walk in his first MLB start. Then, the bullpen allowed four walks and struck out eight in eight scoreless innings.
Left fielder Joey Gallo started game two for Texas with a solo home run, his 37th, in the second. In the sixth, catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a three-run double, his 15th, Kiner-Falefa hit a RBI double, his 18th, and right fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a RBI single. Texas won 6-3.
The bullpen allowed three runs, five walks and struck out seven in nine innings, which included closer José Leclerc’s 11th save.
Left fielder Willie Calhoun hit a solo home run, his second, in the second of the series finale. Then, Profar hit a solo home run, his 18th, in the third before Chirinos hit a RBI single in the sixth. Texas lost 7-3.
Lefty Mike Minor allowed two runs, a walk and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings before the bullpen allowed five runs, all in the ninth, four walks and struck out one.
Texas will start its finale homestand with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (82-66).
