Texas Takes Two Of Three Against Houston, First Road Trip Starts Against Los Angeles

The Texas Rangers, 4-2, lost the series opener 2-1. First baseman Ronald Guzmán drove in the Ranger’s lone run with a solo home run. Starter Drew Smyly struck out two and allowed a run in three innings before pitcher Adrian Sampson earned the loss against the Astros, 2-5, struck out three and allowed a run in six innings.
Texas won game two 6-4. Third baseman Asdrúbal Cabrera hit a two-run home run, his third, and three Rangers hit RBI singles, including designated hitter Joey Gallo’s two-run single. Reliever Shawn Kelley earned the win after a shutout four-out inning and closer Jose Leclerc earned his second save with shutout ninth inning.
Texas won the series finale 4-0. Right fielder Nomar Mazara drove in two runs with a RBI single and a solo home run, his second. Lefty Mike Minor earned his first win after striking out seven in seven shutout innings,
Texas will travel to Los Angeles, California, for a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels, 1-5.
