The Texas Rangers, 45-36 overall, swept the Detroit Tigers, 26-50, in a three-game series in Comerica Park. Texas won the series opener 5-3. First baseman Ronald Guzmán hit a solo home run, his seventh, and center fielder Joey Gallo hit a RBI double, his 12th. Starter Jesse Chavez earned his third win after allowing an unearned run and striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
Texas won game two 4-1. Designated hitter Willie Calhoun, catcher Jeff Mathis and second baseman Danny Santana each hit solo home runs, their fourth, second and ninth of the season. Starter Mike Minor earned his eighth win after allowing a run and striking out seven in a complete-game effort.
Texas won the series finale 3-1. Gallo hit two solo home runs, his 18th and 19th, and designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Starter Ariel Jurado earned his fifth win after striking out four in seven shutout innings.
Texas will finish its six-game road trip with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, 46-35, which can be heard on:
