Texas Sweep To Finish Homestand, To Travel To Houston

The Oakland Athletics (61-43) swept the Texas Rangers (42-62) in a four-game series at Globe Life Park.

 

Shortstop Elvis Andrus hit a two-run home run, his third, in the third inning of the series opener. Then, first baseman Ronald Guzman hit a RBI double, his 11th, in the seventh. Texas lost 15-3.

 

Lefty Cole Hamels, who was traded to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, allowed seven runs, two walks and struck out five in five innings before the bullpen allowed eight runs, two walks and struck out a pair.

 

Andrus hit a RBI single before third baseman Adrian Beltre drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first of game two. Left fielder Willie Calhoun hit a solo home run, his first of the season, before Andrus drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. In the sixth, right fielder Joey Gallo hit a solo home, his 25th, center fielder Carlos Tocci hit a RBI single and Andrus hit a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season. Texas lost 13-10 in 10 innings.

 

Lefty Mike Minor allowed two runs, a walk and struck out five in five innings before the bullpen allowed 11 runs, 10 earned, seven walks and struck out six.

 

Catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a three-run home run, his 13th, in the second of game three before second baseman Rougned Odor and Beltre each hit RBI singles in the fifth. Texas lost 6-5.

 

Lefty Martin Pérez allowed three walks and struck out four in six innings of one-run ball. Then, the bullpen allowed five runs, two walks and struck out three in three innings.

 

Beltre hit a RBI single before Gallo hit a RBI groundout in the first of the series finale. Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a RBI single in the second before third baseman Jurickson Profar hit a two-run triple, his fifth, in the fifth. Finally, Guzman scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. Texas lost 7-6.

 

Starter Bartolo Colon allowed six runs, a pair of walks and struck out four in the seven innings before the bullpen allowed a run and struck out two in two innings.

 

The Rangers will travel to Minute Maid Park to face the Houston Astros (67-37) in a three-game series.
