Texas Splits Short Series In Arizona, To Start Homestand Against Baltimore

The Texas Rangers (46-63) split a two-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks (60-49) at Chase Field.

 

Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a three-run home run, his 19th, in the fifth inning of the series opener. In the sixth, catcher Robinson Chirinos and pinch hitter Willie Calhoun each hit RBI singles before second baseman Rougned Odor hit a solo home run, his 10th, and first baseman Jurickson Profar hit a RBI single. Finally, Choo hit a solo home run, his 20th, in the eighth before center fielder Delino DeShields hit a RBI single in the ninth. Texas won 9-5.

 

Lefty Martin Pérez pitched five innings, allowed four runs, one earned, walked two and struck out five. Then, the bullpen allowed one run, two walks and struck out six in four innings.

 

Texas was held scoreless and limited to four hits in the series finale. Texas lost 6-0.

 

Starter Bartolo Colon allowed five runs, two walks and struck out three in five innings before the bullpen walked two and struck out four in three innings of one-run ball.

 

Texas will come home for a seven-game homestand, which with start with a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (32-75) at Globe Life Park.
