Texas Splits Series In Pittsburgh, To Continue Road Trip In Houston

The Texas Rangers, 17-17 overall, split a two-game series at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 17-16. Texas lost the series opener 5-4. Right fielder Hunter Pence hit a two-run home run, his fourth, and two doubles, his fourth and fifth. Starter Adrian Sampson struck out two and allowed five runs in five innings to earn his second loss.

Texas won the series finale 9-6. Center fielder Joey Gallo hit a two-run home run, his 12th, catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a RBI double, his third, and Pence hit a grand slam, his fifth home run. Starter Shelby Miller allowed two runs and struck out six in four innings before reliever Ariel Jurado earned his first win with a shutout eighth and reliever Chris Martin earned his first save with a strikeout in a shutout ninth inning.

Texas will continue its nine-game road trip with a four-game series against the Houston Astros, 22-15, which can be heard on:
