The Texas Rangers, 48-42 overall, lost a three-game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins, 56-33, at Target Field. Texas lost the series opener 15-6. Designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run home run, his 13th, and corner infielder Logan Forsythe hit a solo home run, his fourth. Starter Adrian Sampson allowed seven runs and struck out five in 3 1/3 innings to earn his sixth loss.
Texas lost game two 7-4. Shortstop Elvis Andrus hit a solo home run, his eighth, and left fielder Willie Calhoun hit a two-run, his fifth. Starter Jesse Chavez earned his fourth loss after allowing five runs, four earned, and striking out three in five innings.
Texas won the series finale 4-1 in 11 innings. Utility player Danny Santana hit a RBI single and second baseman Rougned Odor hit a three-run home run, his 13th. Closer Shawn Kelley earned his fourth win after striking out two in two shutout innings.
Texas will start a six-game homestand with a four-game series against the Houston Astros, 57-33, following the All-Star break, which can be heard on:
