The Texas Rangers (57-72) lost two of three against the Oakland Athletics (76-51) at Oakland Coliseum.
The Rangers were held scoreless and limited to three hits in the series opener. Right fielder Nomar Mazara hit a double, his 17th, which was the only extra-base hit from Texas. Texas lost 9-0.
Starter Bartolo Colon allowed seven runs, a walk and struck out three in five innings before the bullpen allowed two runs, three walks and struck out four in three innings.
The Rangers were held scoreless and limited to two hits in game two. Left fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a double, his 28th, which was the lone extra-base hit from Texas. Texas lost 6-0.
Rookie Ariel Jurado allowed four runs, a walk and struck out one in 5 2/3 innings before lefty Matt Moore allowed two runs, a walk and struck out four in 2 1/3 innings.
Choo started the series finale with a solo home run, his 21st, in the first inning. In the third, designated hitter Adrian Beltre hit a RBI single before outfielder Joey Gallo hit a solo home run, his 33rd, in the fourth. Finally, Beltre hit a RBI single in the fifth. Texas won 4-2.
Lefty Mike Minor allowed a walk and struck out four in six scoreless innings. Then, the bullpen allowed two runs, three walks and struck out five in three innings, which included closer Jose Leclerc’s scoreless ninth inning and his sixth save.
Texas will finish its six-game road trip with a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants (62-66) at AT&T Park.
