Steely at the Masters: Reed vs Rory please!

Steely at the Masters: Reed vs Rory please!

Tiger and Phil languished to make the cut Friday here in Augusta. And barring something crazy over the weekend, neither will be a real threat to be in the mix on Sunday.

Sure, I’d love to see Lefty and T-Dub paired together in the final group Sunday- but it’s not going to happen. Not in the final group anyway.

How about this for the final round- Rory vs Reed Round 2 at Augusta?

Patrick Reed is your leader at -9 heading into the weekend. And Rory McIlroy is only 5 shots back in a tie for 4th, well within range if Reed cools off Saturday.

Reed and Rory staged an epic Ryder Cup singles match in 2016 at Hazeltine, with Reed winning 1-up. Both played great golf, with a mix of smack talk, crowd pleasing celebrations, and a great finish that ended with absolute respect for the way for the other played.

It was one of the greatest singles duels in Ryder Cup history.

Both have great story lines.

Reed the fiery former college star at local Augusta State, searching for his first ever major title. Rory looking to bury the ghosts of 2011 Masters past with a victory at the AGNC to complete the career grand slam.

Sure, I’d be fine with Rickie vs Rory or Reed too. Or Rickie vs Spieth, DJ, or even Justin Thomas.

Still, Rory and Reed Revisited is the best possible Masters movie for me on Sunday.

I’d also buy a ticket for Tiger and Phil paired together for a Sunday double feature.

We’ve already seen “Nightmare on 15” with Sergio Garcia, right?
So we know that anything can happen at Augusta.

Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait until Monday for the show with all the rain in the forecast Saturday.

There’s certainly a lot of drama ahead, and some great names still have a legit shot at the green jacket.

Happy viewing this weekend!
