The Oklahoma Sooners (33-19) won two of three against the University of Central Florida Knights (33-19) at John Euliano Park.
Two runs scored as designated hitter Tyler Hardman reached on a throwing error to open the Sooner’s scoring in the fourth inning of the series opener. In the next inning, center fielder Kyler Murray hit a RBI double before first baseman Cade Cavalli hit a solo home run in the 14th. OU lost 5-4.
Starter Jake Irvin pitched six innings of three runs ball, which included a walk and six strikeouts. Then, six relievers followed Irvin’s start in the extra-inning loss, including Devon Perez, who earned his third loss.
Murray started game two with a three-run home run in the first inning. Three innings later, a run scored as Cavalli scored on a throwing error. In the fifth, Murray hit a RBI double before third baseman Brylie Ware and second baseman Kyle Mendenhall drove in runs with a ground out and a sacrifice fly. OU won 7-3.
Starter Levi Prater pitched 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball with three walks and six strikeouts. Then, four relievers followed Prater, including Perez for his fifth with and Austin Hansen for his fifth save.
A run scored while Hardman reached on a throwing error in the second inning of the series finale. In the third, right fielder Steele Walker hit a RBI single before Murray hit a three-run home run. Four innings later, Walker hit a RBI single before pinch hitter Blake Brewster hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth. OU won 7-4.
Starter Nathan Wiles pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed two runs, zero earned, one walk and six strikeouts to earn his fifth win. Then, six relievers followed Wiles’ start, including Hansen, who earned his sixth save.
OU will travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to play the Kansas Jayhawks (23-27) for a three-game series at Hoglund Ballpark.
