Sooners add another defensive commitment

Sooners add another defensive commitment

NORMAN- Oklahoma defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has added another piece to his rebuild.

Damond Harmon announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners on Instagram.

The 6-foot-1-inch cornerback is commitment 13 for the 2021 recruiting class, and the ninth defensive commitment for the Sooners.

Harmon is listed as a 3-star recruit on Rivals, 247 Sports and ESPN recruiting services.

The future secondary is coming together, as Harmon joins fellow defensive back commitments Latrell McCutchin, Jordan Mukes and Caleb Johnson.

Grinch went all the way to Highland Springs, VA to win the services of Harmon, beating out South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee and Georgia.

Not generally a pipeline for the Sooners, the Washington D.C. area has been kind this recruiting cycle. With 5-star quarterback Caleb Williams committed as well, Oklahoma will hope Harmon isn’t the last marquee recruit from Virginia to hop aboard with the 2021 class.

Harmon is the high school teammate of Kelvin Gilliam Jr., a 4-star defensive lineman who the Sooners are also recruiting heavily.

While Lincoln Riley and company will have to wait another year for the 2021 class to hit campus, the Sooners returned to practice on Friday amidst uncertainty surrounding the 2020 college football season.
