This past week, Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley and Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy took their respective tours of ESPN as part of the annual “Bristol Car Wash.” Both participated in live and taped interviews for television, radio and print all across the big campus.
Riley made 16 stops during his six hour tour including: Mike & Mike, First Take, SportsCenter and College Football Live. The first-year coach handled the day like a veteran as he discussed everything from his days at Texas Tech to his age to Joe Mixon. One Sooner staff member on the trip tallied 70 handshakes, 6,748 steps, eight waters and no coffee.
Gundy started his wash the night before the long day with a SportsCenter interview with Kenny Mayne, featuring a FaceTime interruption from Barry Melrose. The next day started early as he appeared on SportsCenter AM, First Take and The Paul Finebaum Show with taped interviews on College Football Live, Highly Questionable and another SportsCenter appearance. Unlike Riley, Gundy’s questions included very little football and more topics about his mullet, rattlesnake hunting and the 10-year anniversary of the “I’m a man, I’m 40” rant. Just like during the Big 12 Media Days, Gundy says he is the most relaxed and comfortable he has ever been heading into a season.
For both coaches, their taped interviews will air at different times during the offseason and regular season.
