Report: Paul George Traded to Oklahoma City Thunder

According to a report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Paul George has been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder:

Thunder guard Victor Oladipo and  forward Domantas Sabonis are reported to be part of the deal.

Paul George had long been rumored to want out of Indiana. George was recently linked to the Los Angeles Lakers as a potential future destination, but Sam Presti and the Thunder will hope to convince George to stay past the ’17-’18 season, when George can exercise his player option and become an unrestricted free agent.

The Thunder hold his bird rights and can sign George to the most amount of money after this season if he opts out of his player option.

This bombshell trade came just hours ahead of the free agency period. Russell Westbrook will be eligible to sign a contract extension at 12:01 E.T. on July 1st. Just thirty minutes or so ahead of the period, Westbrook seemed quite excited:

The Thunder’s Achilles heel last season was the fact that no one player consistently contributed other than Russell Westbrook. Although Westbrook’s heroics were fun to watch — it did earn him the MVP, after all — it became sorely clear that Westbrook needed another star. Now, Westbrook has one in George.
