The Texas Rangers (27-37) swept the Oakland Athletics (31-31) in a two-game series at Globe Life Park.
Catcher Robinson Chirinos hit a solo home run, his eighth, in the fourth inning of the series opener. In the sixth, shortstop Jurickson Profar hit a solo home run, his fourth. In the next inning, left fielder Shin-Soo Choo hit a two-run home run, his 10th, before designated hitter Adrian Beltre hit a solo home run, his second, and first baseman Joey Gallo hit a two-run home run, his 16th, in the eighth. Texas won 7-4.
Left Matt Moore pitched six innings of three-run ball with three walks and three strikeouts. Then, the bullpen combined for one run allowed, one walk and four strikeouts, which included closer Keone Kela striking out the side for his 14th save.
Profar hit a solo shot, his fifth, and Gallo hit a solo home run, his 17th, in the first of the series finale. In the third, Profar hit another solo shot, his sixth. First baseman Ronald Guzman hit a two-run home run, his seventh, in the fourth. Finally, Profar hit a two-run single in the seventh. Texas won 8-2.
Starter Bartolo Colon earned his third win with five innings of two-run ball, which included two walks and a strikeout. Then, the bullpen combined for four scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
This was Colon’s 243rd career win, which tied him with Hall of Famer Juan Marichal for the most wins for a pitcher from the Dominican Republic.
Texas will continue its six-game homestand with a four-game series against the Houston Astros (38-25).
