The Texas Rangers (7-13) lost two of three against the Tampa Bay Rays (5-13) at Tropicana Field.
First baseman Joey Gallo started the Ranger’s offense with a solo home run, his sixth, in the fourth inning of game one before right fielder Nomar Mazara his a three-run home run, his second, in the eighth. Texas lost 8-4.
Martin Pérez allowed eight runs, seven earned, in four innings of work before reliever Jesse Chavez pitched four scoreless innings.
Third baseman Adrian Beltre started the game-two offense with a sacrifice fly in the first before designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo. In the fifth, Beltre hit his second sacrifice fly and first baseman Ronald Guzman hit a RBI double, his second. In the next inning, Choo hit a solo home run, his fourth, before Mazara hit a RBI single in the eighth. Texas 7-2.
Lefty Matt Moore earned his first Ranger win with seven innings pitched, which included a run, unearned, two walks and six strikeouts. Reliver Kevin Jepsen pitched a scoreless eighth before righty Matt Bus pitched a one-run ninth.
Choo started the Ranger’s offense in the series finale with a solo home run, his third, in the third before second baseman Drew Robinson hit a RBI single in the ninth. Texas lost 4-2.
Lefty Cole Hamels allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings and struck out four before reliever Chris Martin pitched a scoreless two-out appearance in the seventh. Finally, lefty Alex Claudio pitched a scoreless eighth.
The Rangers will return to Globe Life Park to host the Seattle Mariners (9-8) in a three-game series.
