Pistons to hire Thunder VP as their GM

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Detroit Pistons are finalizing a deal to make Oklahoma City Thunder VP of Basketball Operations Troy Weaver their general manager, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Weaver had spent 11 years in the front office with the Oklahoma City Thunder under Sam Presti.

Weaver, a D.C. native, has been mentioned frequently for open front office jobs over the past 10 seasons. His ability to connect with players is highly regarded throughout the league.

Weaver’s previous stints include director of player personnel with the Utah Jazz during the 2007-08 season as well as their head scout the three seasons prior. He also served as an assistant coach with Syracuse from 2000-04 where he coached former Thunder player Carmelo Anthony during the 2003 NCAA championship run.

The Thunder’s front office is left with Rob Hennigan — the vice president of foresight and insight — and WIll Dawkins, whose title is the vice president of identification and intelligence.
