OU Takes Two Of Three In Fort Worth

The Oklahoma Sooners (23-11) won two of three against the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (15-13) in a three-game series over the weekend at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

 

OU center fielder Kyler Murray started the offense for OU with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, first baseman Cade Cavalli drove in a run with a double. Three innings later, right fielder Steele Walker and Murray started a three-run inning with a couple of bases-loaded walks before third baseman Brylie Ware got hit by a pitch while the bases were loaded. In the eighth, pinch runner Domenic DeRenzo scored on a throwing error by TCU catcher Zach Humphreys. Finally, Murray hit his second home run, a solo shot, of the day in the ninth inning. OU won 8-5.

 

OU starter Jake Irvin pitched five innings of four-run ball, which included three walks and five strikeouts. Then, lefty Levi Prater earned his second win of the season with a one-run sixth before junior Austin Hansen pitched a scoreless seventh. Finally, lefty Braidyn Fink struck out three in a four-out, scoreless appearance before junior Connor Berry pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save.

 

Walker started the offense for OU in game one of Sunday’s double header with a two-run home run in the first. In the second inning, designated hitter Tyler Hardman hit a RBI single, as part of a four-hit game. Two innings later, Hardman replicated his second-inning effort with another RBI single. Walker finished the scoring in the first game on Sunday with his second two-run home run of the day. OU won 6-3.

 

OU starter Devon Perez earned his fourth win with 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball with two walks and two strikeouts. Prater relieved Perez with a two-out, scoreless appearance before Hansen recorded four outs without allowing a run. Then, Fink walked one and struck out one before Berry shut down TCU in the ninth for his seventh save.

 

In the fourth, Ware was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to start the scoring for OU in the series finale. Left fielder Cade Harris finished the scoring for OU with a solo home run in fifth. OU lost 6-2.

 

OU’s next game will be against Little Rock Trojans (17-13) in Norman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
