OSU Sweeps Bedlam Series

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (27-14-1) swept the Oklahoma Sooners (28-18) over the weekend in Stillwater and Tulsa.

 

OSU shortstop Matt Kroon started the series with a solo home run in the first inning before designated hitter Cade Cabbiness hit a two-run home run in the second. Then, catcher Colin Simpson hit a solo home run in the third. In the sixth, first baseman Christian Funk hit a sacrifice fly before right fielder Carson McCusker and second baseman Ryan Cash each hit RBI singles. OSU won 8-0.

 

OSU lefty Carson Teel pitched eight scoreless innings, walked one and struck out 12 to earn his sixth win before reliever Peyton Battenfield finished the series opener with a scoreless ninth.

OU starter Jake Irvin allowed five runs in five innings before two relievers covered the following three innings.

 

OSU left fielder Jon Littell and Funk each hit RBI singles in the first inning of game two before center fielder Trevor Boone hit a RBI triple. In the second inning, Kroon hit a RBI single before Littell hit a two-run single. Finally, Boone hit a sacrifice fly before McCusker hit a three-run home run in the seventh. OSU won 10-1.

 

OU left fielder Cade Harris scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.

 

OSU starter Joe Lienhard pitched six innings of one-run ball, walked three and struck out seven to earn his fifth win before relievers Ben Leeper and Battenfield combined for three scoreless innings to finish the game.

 

OU starter Devon Perez start lasted 1 1/3 innings, which led to OU needing five relievers to finish game two.

 

Boone started the offense for OSU in the series finale with a RBI double in the second before McCusker drove in a run while grounding into a double play. In the third, Simpson hit a RBI single and Littell hit a sacrifice fly. Then, Boone hit a solo home run in the sixth before Littell hit a two-run home run and third baseman Michael Neustifter hit a RBI double in the seventh. Finally, Simpson hit a solo home run in the eighth. OSU won 9-2.

 

OU second baseman Kyle Mendenhall hit a sacrifice fly in the second before shortstop Brandon Zaragoza hit a RBI single in the fifth.

 

OSU starter Jonathan Heasley pitched five innings, allowed two runs, one earned, walked two and struck out six while earning his third win. Then, reliever Reza Aleaziz pitched three scoreless innings before reliever C.J. Valera pitched a scoreless ninth.

 

OU starter Nathan Wiles allowed four runs in five innings before OU used four relievers to finish its series-finale efforts.

 

OSU’s next game will be in Tulsa against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (26-15) at 6:30 p.m.
