OSU football: Brailford added to Bednarik Award watch list

Jordan Brailford was added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday.The award is presented annually to the college defensive player of the year and is named in honor of College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik.

The redshirt junior from Tulsa leads the nation with eight sacks this season. The Cowboys lead the country with 28 sacks through six games. They had only 30 in 13 last season.

Brailford also ranks third nationally with 11.5 tackles for loss. He is on pace to set OSU’s school record in each of those categories.

Brailford had a career outing against Kansas on Sept. 29, as he recorded career-high totals in sacks (3), tackles for loss (5) and total tackles (8).

Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 29, and three finalists will be chosen Nov. 19. The winner will be presented the award at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 6 in Atlanta.

Brailford and the Cowboys (4-2 overall, 1-2 Big 12) return to action Saturday when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas, for a matchup with Kansas State. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
