The Oklahoma Sooners (31-18) swept the Kansas State Wildcats (18-29) over the weekend in Norman.
Center fielder Kyler Murray started the series for OU with a sacrifice fly in the first inning of game one. In the second, first baseman Cade Cavalli hit a sacrifice fly before a run scored on error and on a shortstop Brandon Zaragoza’s RBI groundout. Two innings later, right fielder Steele Walker had a RBI walk before Murray hit a RBI single, which drove in an unearned second run. In the sixth, Walker hit a sacrifice fly before Murray hit a two-run home run and second baseman Kyle Mendenhall hit a RBI ground-rule double. Finally, Walker hit a RBI triple in the seventh. OU won 12-0.
Starter Jake Irvin pitched six two-hit innings with three walks 10 strikeouts while earning his sixth win before two relievers followed with two scoreless appearances.
Mendenhall started game two with a sacrifice fly in the second before Cavalli hit a RBI single in the seventh. OU won 2-0.
Starter Levi Prater pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, walked three and struck out two before three relievers followed his start, which included Kyle Tyler’s 3 1/3 scoreless innings and six strikeouts.
First baseman Tyler Hardman started the series finale with a two-run double in the seventh. Finally, Walker scored on a throwing error before third baseman Brylie Ware hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth. OU won 4-3.
Starter Nathan Wiles allowed two runs during 5 1/3 innings before six relievers were used to seal the sweep. Cavalli earned his third win with a scoreless eighth before reliever Austin Hansen earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
The Sooners will play travel to Orlando, Florida, to play the University of Central Florida Knights (30-15) at John Euliano Park.
