Oklahoma State Swept In Final Regular-Season Series, Face West Virginia In Big XII Championship

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (38-15) swept the Oklahoma State Cowboys (29-22-1) in Stillwater over the weekend.


The first run for OSU scored when the Red Raiders dropped a fly ball in the second inning of the series opener. In the eighth, left fielder Jon Littell hit a three-run home run. OSU lost 9-4.


Starter Joe Lienhard pitched five innings of one-run ball, which included five strikeouts. Then, three relievers combined for eight runs allowed, eight walks and three strikeouts.


Catcher Colin Simpson scored the scoring for OSU in game two with a RBI single in the first. Later in the inning, Littell hit a RBI single before first baseman Christian Funk drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Two innings later, third baseman Michael Neustifter hit a two-run double before shortstop Matt Kroon scored on a throwing error after stealing third base in the fourth. OSU lost 14-6.


Lefty Carson Teel allowed seven runs during four innings of work, walked two and struck out four. Then, four relievers combined for seven runs allowed, two walks and four strikeouts.


Center fielder Trevor Boone hit a sacrifice fly in the third of the series finale to start OSU’s scoring. Later in the inning, Kroon hit a two-run home run to finish OSU’s scoring. OSU lost 7-3.


Starter Jonathan Heasley walked three, struck out four and allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings before two relievers combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, a walk and three strikeouts.


This series concludes the regular season for OSU. Its next game will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. against the West Virginia Mountaineers (27-25) in the Big XII Championship, which takes place at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City.
