Oklahoma State Loses Weekend Series To West Virginia

OSU lost the series opener 11-1. OSU’s, 19-11 overall, lone run came from infielder Max Hewitt’s sacrifice fly. Starter Jensen Elliot earned the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, and striking out two in three innings.

Catcher Colin Simpson gave OSU a four-run lead with a grand slam in the eighth inning of game two against the Mountaineers, 19-12, which OSU won 9-5. Starter Joe Lienhard struck out two and allowed five runs in four innings before reliever Logan Gragg earned the win after a shutout eighth.

Simpson drove in all of OSU’s runs in the 4-2 series-finale loss with a two-run home run. Starter Brett Standlee allowed a run and struck out five in six innings before reliever Peyton Battenfield earned the loss after striking out two and allowing two runs in a four-out appearance.

OSU will travel to Wichita, Kansas, to face the Wichita State Shockers, 18-14, Wednesday at 6 p.m.
