Oklahoma State Loses Series Against Baylor on Mother’s Day, Set To Host Texas Tech

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (29-19-1) lost two of three against the Baylor Bears (30-18) this past weekend at Baylor Ballpark.

 

Second baseman Ryan Cash started the series for the Cowboys with a RBI single in the second inning before designated hitter Andrew Rosa hit a RBI double later in the inning. Finally, shortstop Matt Kroon hit a three-run home run in the seventh. OSU lost 13-5.

 

Starter Joe Lienhard allowed eight runs in four innings pitched before three relievers followed. The first two relievers combined for five runs allowed and the third reliever pitched a scoreless eighth.

 

Catcher Colin Simpson started game two with a two-run home run in the first inning before Trevor Boone hit a solo home run, as part of a four-hit game, in the second. In the third, Kroon hit a solo home run before Boone hit a two-run home run. In the fourth, third baseman Michael Neustifter hit a solo home run before Simpson hit a three-run home run. Finally, Boone ended OSU’s 11-run attack with a solo home run in the fifth. OSU won 11-6.

 

Lefty Carson Teel pitched five innings, allowed five runs, walked five and struck out three to earn his seventh win before two relievers followed him to finish the win.

 

OSU was held scoreless in the series finale until Kroon and Simpson each hit a solo home run in the eighth. Finally, right fielder Carson McCusker hit a solo home run in the ninth. OSU lost 7-3.

 

Starter Jonathan Heasley pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed four runs, two earned, walked two and struck out four while earning his fifth loss. Then, three relievers followed Heasley’s start.

 

OSU will travel home to host the Texas Tech Red Raiders (35-15) May 17-19.
