Oklahoma State Falls 8-5 Against West Virginia, Face Texas In Day Two Of Big XII Championship

The second-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys (29-23-1) lost 8-5 against the seventh-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (28-25) in the first round of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

 

Shortstop Matt Kroon started the offense for OSU with a RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. In the next inning, first baseman Christian Funk hit a RBI single before third baseman Michael Neustifter drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Finally, a run scored as catcher Colin Simpson reached base on a fielding error before a run scored as left fielder Jon Little reached base on throwing error in the seventh.

 

Starter Peyton Battenfield allowed three runs and struck out one in one inning of work. Then, five relievers combined for five runs, two earned, four walks and three strikeouts.

 

OSU’s next game will be against the third-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders (38-16) in the day two of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City today at 12:30 p.m.
