Oklahoma Loses Series To West Virginia

The Sooners, 22-7 overall, beat West Virginia 2-1 in the series opener at Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown, West Virginia. Catcher Justin Mitchell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before center field Brady Harlan hit a RBI single. Starter Cade Cavalli struck out eight, allowed a run and pitched five innings to earn his fourth win. Then, closer Jason Ruffcorn pitched a shutout ninth to earn his seventh save.

The Mountaineers, 16-11, beat OU 12-4 in game two. Four Sooners drove in a run, including third baseman Brylie Ware’s solo home run, and Harlan had a three-hit game. Starter Nathan Wiles struck out six and allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings, while earning his first loss. Then, the bullpen allowed eight runs after Wiles’ start.

OU lost the series finale 5-1. First baseman Tyler Hardman got a pair of hits and left fielder Jordan Vujovich hit a RBI groundout. Starter Levi Prater allowed four runs, three earned, struck three and pitched three innings, while earning his second loss.

OU will come home to host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, 13-12, for a Tuesday matchup at 6:30 p.m.
