Oklahoma Beats Top-Seed Texas To Move On In Big XII Championship

The fourth-seed Oklahoma Sooners (35-22) beat the first-seed Texas Longhorns (37-20) 3-1 in the second day of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City.

 

Center fielder Kyler Murray started OU’s offense with a RBI single in the first inning. In the third, left fielder Blake Brewster hit a solo home run before right fielder Domenic DeRenzo hit a RBI double in the fifth.

 

Starter Nathan Wiles allowed a run, two walks and struck out four in four innings. Then, the bullpen combined for five scoreless innings, which included two walks and six strikeouts. Closer Austin Hansen served as the bullpen’s finale with a five-out save.

 

OU’s next game will be against the eighth-seed Kansas Jayhawks (27-29) on the third day of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City today at 3:15 p.m.
