Oklahoma Beats Kansas 4-2, To Face Baylor In Semi Finals

The fourth-seed Oklahoma Sooners (35-22) beat the eighth-seed Kansas Jayhawks (27-30) 4-2 in the third day of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City.

 

The first run scored on a throwing error in the first inning. Later in the inning, second baseman Kyle Mendenhall hit a RBI single before designated hitter Thomas Hughes hit a RBI double. Mendenhall finished OU’s scoring with a sacrifice fly in the third.

 

Starter Kyle Tyler pitched a quality start, which included two walks, five strikeouts and six innings of two-run ball. Then, two relievers combined for a scoreless seventh and eighth with two walks and four strikeouts before closer Austin Hansen struck out the side in the ninth for the save.

 

OU will face the fifth-seed Baylor Bears (34-19) in the fourth day of the Big 12 Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, in Oklahoma City today at 9 a.m.
