The Toronto Raptors have hired Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Adrian Griffin according to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports. It is the second time the Raptors have snagged an Oklahoma City assistant in recent years–Rex Kalamian was hired by Toronto in 2015.
Griffin has been with the Thunder since being hired as Billy Donovan’s lead assistant in June 2016. The up-and-coming coach interviewed for the head coaching position for the Utah Jazz in early 2015 while working as an assistant for the Chicago Bulls.
Along with the Thunder, Bulls and now the Raptors, Griffin has coached at Milwaukee under Scott Skiles and again under Skiles with the Orlando Magic in 2015-16. The 19-year NBA veteran even worked on the staff of the 2014 FIBA World Cup team that won a gold medal in Spain.
This is the second assistant coach poached by other franchises. Royal Ivey was hired by the New York Knicks to serve under David Fizdale.
