Nike, Thunder Unveil New ‘Statement’ Uniforms

NBA 2K18 let the cat out of the bag, but Nike and the Oklahoma City Thunder have unveiled a navy blue alternate uniform.

The prime element, the Thunder said in a release, is the offset ‘OKC’ in the front. The slight asymmetricality in the three letters is to symbolize the Thunder’s forward-leaning mindset, the team said. Although the ‘sunset’ orange uniforms were scrapped, the bright orange remains in certain elements.

The team will wear the uniforms “at least” seven times this season, the first of which will come on November 24th against the Detroit Pistons. After that, the uniforms will be worn on Sundays, just like the ‘sunset’ uniforms of last season.

Nike, who is now in control of the league’s on-court outfitting, has also equipped each uniform with near-field communication (or NFC) technology, which will allow purchasers of the jersey the capability of scanning the jersey into their phone and accessing bonus content, like player-curated playlists.

The team has yet to unveil the third of uniforms, known as the “community” edition.
