Spencer Rattler’s Commitment Confirms Riley’s Prowess In Recruiting

Oklahoma hasn’t gone out of their region to find a quarterback very often. With Lincoln Riley, that entire narrative of only recruiting local kids has changed immensely. He has now reached into Ohio, Tennessee, and Arizona in the last two weeks to bring in recruits. However, the most recent one has made the most noise.

Spencer Rattler has been a name Lincoln Riley has known for over two years now. When Lincoln Riley became the offensive coordinator in 2015, one of his early offers was to Rattler. The potential five-star 2019 recruit announced his commitment to Oklahoma coming off a visit a week earlier. The public had to wait just under ten days after the visit to hear the news, but Rattler made it worth it with a video that garnered a lot of attention on Twitter:

The young quarterback has shown elite potential early in his high school career. Rattler threw for just under 2900 yards and had 27 touchdowns as a sophomore last season. His commitment also confirms that Riley is moving completely towards quarterbacks that are mobile enough to run some zone-read. The gun-slinger is capable enough to throw passes on the run and into tight windows, but his confidence as a passer this early is what is impressive. Rattler is already throwing back-shoulder throws and seam routes over safeties with ease. He is just a complete quarterback that already plays like a sophomore in college.

Rattler has been leaning towards Oklahoma for awhile. The recent visit wrapped things up with his recruitment before making a video back home. This commitment just confirms what many have suggested already–Lincoln Riley is a force to be reckoned with on the recruiting trail.

Lincoln Riley also gained two 2018 commitments earlier in the week. Three-star wide receivers Treveon Johnson and Jaylon Robinson pulled the trigger:
