Last week was the second week of the college baseball season for the Sooners and Cowboys. Both teams started their weeks against smaller division one schools, but finished with a three game series versus a power five conference team.
OU’s first opponent of the week might have been a small school, but Dallas Baptist is ranked No. 25 in the NCAA. The Sooners suffered their second loss of the season 5-2 at the hands of Dallas Baptist. OU gave up three runs in the seventh inning, where they were tied headed into the inning. Dallas Baptist pitchers struck out OU batters 11 times and held them to three hits. Brandon Zaragroza scored the first run for the Sooners, after Steele Walker hit into a fielders choice for OU’s only RBI. OU projected starting quarterback and center fielder Kyler Murray hit the only home run in the ninth inning.

The Sooners went 2-1 against Alabama to close the week. Kyle Mendenhall started the series off with a walk-off hit in the 11th inning to secure a Sooners 2-1 win.

OU clinched the series in the second game with a 16-4 win. Where they recorded 17 hits and scored eight runs in the eighth inning. Brylie Ware and Mendenhall both set new career highs. Ware drove five runs and Mendenhall recorded four hits. The final game didn’t go as well as the first two for the Sooners losing 12-1.

OSU started last week splitting a two game home series against Little Rock. The Cowboys won the first game 9-2, but Little Rock out hit them 5-4. OSU capitalized on Little Rock’s two errors in the third inning, which led them to a four run inning and take the lead for the rest of the game.

The second game of the series went south for the Cowboys 12-6 and gave up 17 hits. The game was the most hits the Cowboys have given up this season.
OSU went on the road this weekend and went 1-2 against Arizona State. The Sun Devils offense was dominant in the first two games where they scored 23 runs in two games. The first game Arizona State won 9-1 and then won the second game 14-2. The 14 runs were the most points the Cowboys have allowed this season. OSU pitching staff had given up double-digit hit totals for three straight games.
On Sunday, OSU ended on a positive note, where they won 3-2 in extra innings and snapped their three-game losing streak. The team recorded the most hits of the series in the game with ten.
