Durant needs a Slim Reaper Game Seven

Kevin Durant’s ultimate destination is Springfield, as in Massachusetts, as in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

KD has transformed the city and the state with his basketball greatness and his impressive humility. Durant is a superstar nice guy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

However, it’s time for KD to get nasty, Game 7 demands a return of the Slim Reaper if OKC is to get by a historically good Golden State team Monday night at Oracle Arena.

The Thunder went blunder down the stretch Saturday night and blew a chance to close out the Warriors in six games.

It took a record-setting 3 point barrage from Klay Thompson and the reemergence of Steph Curry for Golden State to stave off elimination and send it back to Oakland for Game 7.

Durant stumbled down the stretch Saturday, missing shots and turning it over at crunch time. Plus, KD seemed to return to “hero ball,” ignoring open teammates and trying to take over the game by himself.

Can’t happen in Game 7 if OKC is to pull the upset.

Durant needs to aggressive for sure, taking better shots and getting to the rim more frequently. He also has to look for open shots for his teammates when a shot just isn’t there.

KD said Sunday “I’m a professional scorer and will figure this out.”

OKC fans had better hope that’s the case. Durant simply has to shoot it better and make better decisions.

A combination of more nastiness and better basketball IQ from number-35 is what the Thunder needs.

And this MIGHT be KD’s last game in a Thunder uniform. I doubt it, I still think Durant signs a one year deal with an option to stay in Oklahoma City for at least one more season.

However, it’s not a certainty. And a return trip to the finals would greatly enhance the Thunder’s chances of holding onto number-35.

History says OKC’s chances of winning Game 7 at Golden State are pretty slim.

They get a lot better if the “Slim Reaper” returns. The time is now.
