Colon Earns Historic Win, Texas Wins Series Against Seattle

The Texas Rangers (51-65) won two of three against the Seattle Mariners (65-50) at Globe Life Park.

 

First baseman Jurickson Profar hit a RBI double, his 25th, and outfielder Joey Gallo earned a RBI walk before catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a RBI single in the seventh inning. Texas lost 4-3.

 

Lefty Martin Pérez allowed three runs, two walks and struck out three in seven innings. Then, the bullpen held Seattle scoreless until allowing a RBI single in the 12th.

 

Designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo hit a RBI groundout, second baseman Rougned Odor hit a two-run double, his 18th, and shortstop Elvis Andrus hit a RBI single in the third of game two. In the fourth, left fielder Willie Calhoun drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Profar hit a three-run home run, his 12th, in the fifth. Finally, Odor hit a two-run home run, his 14th, before Adrian Beltre hit a solo home run, his sixth. Texas won 11-4.

 

Starter Bartolo Colon allowed four runs and struck out one in seven innings to earn his 246th win, which allowed him to pass Dennis Martinez as the Latin American-born leader in career wins. Rookie Jeffrey Springs pitched two scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout.

 

Odor scored on a fielding error before Gallo hit a RBI single in the first of the series finale. In the third, Gallo hit a two-run home run, his 30th, and first baseman Ronald Guzman hit a RBI single. Next, Gallo hit a solo home run, his 31st, before Kiner-Falefa scored on a double play in the fifth. Finally, Guzman hit a RBI double, his 14th, Calhoun hit a RBI double, his fifth, Profar hit a RBI double, his 26th and Beltre hit a RBI single in the seventh. Texas won 11-7.

 

Starter Yovani Gallardo allowed two runs, three walks and struck out two in six innings to earn his seventh win. Then, the bullpen allowed five runs and struck out one in three innings.

 

Texas will travel to Yankee Stadium for a four-game series against the New York Yankees (71-42).
