BREAKING: Nick Basquine Seriously Injured (Achilles); Out For 2017 Season

Update 2:10 PM

Lincoln Riley confirmed that Nick Basquine has suffered an achilles injury and will be out for the entire 2017 season.

Nick Basquine has been seriously injured and will be out for the entire 2017 season according to Franchise OU Insider and Sooners Illustrated’s Bob Przybylo.

The redshirt junior was a former walk-on before impressing enough to be put on scholarship during the 2016 season. Basquine’s name started to float around at Big 12 Media Days by Baker Mayfield before last season.

He was considered Baker Mayfield’s security blanket on third down or in clutch situations. Basquine was looking to take on a bigger role in Lincoln Riley’s offense in 2017.

He has one year of eligibility left, and can also apply for a medical redshirt after next season for one more of eligibility in the 2019 season.

Mykel Jones, Marquise Brown, and CeDarian “CeeDee” Lamb are the names to watch to replace him.
